With the new legislation, SB241, retention becomes a possibility for students who are below benchmark on Acadience Reading beginning with the 2029-2030 EOY benchmark. When we think about students who may be at risk, our minds often go first to those who are still developing accuracy skills—students showing red composite and accuracy scores who need a strong Tier 3 intervention, which they receive through SIPPS.
But what about the students who are holding onto proficiency by their fingertips? The students who have developed accuracy but are struggling to build the fluency they need to maintain and grow their reading success?
In this session, we will open the fluency “picnic basket” and examine what we are packing into intervention time. Through current fluency research, participants will unpack which practices truly help students grow, which familiar approaches may not provide the nourishment students need, and how we can make every minute of fluency intervention count.
