Phonological awareness is an important part of the learning to read path, but recent research is helping us think differently about how we teach it. In this session, we'll explore what current evidence says about connecting phonological awareness to letters, decoding, and spelling, and how CKLA provides opportunities to do this throughout the Skills Strand. We'll also consider how integrating phonological awareness within daily literacy instruction may provide a more effective use of instructional time than relying on separate, stand-alone phonological awareness routines.
